Three Hakobi
Limited edition of 4 Japanese woodblock prints, 1 block, 4 colours, 1 colour printed
THREE HAKOBI is a print depicting the set of Hakobi (carry) brushes on a Mokuhanga woodblock printer’s table. These brushes are made by the artist with bamboo sheaths and despite their crude appearance, they play the important role of carrying the paint to the block.
Each brush is assigned his own colour and will remain to represent that colour till the end of his life.
PRODUCTION NOTES:
This print was made on locally available Birch Plywood. Another experimental print in trying to achieve fine carving on rather difficult wood. The final black line work was printed with Akua Intaglio black ink and the colored portions were hand painted with watercolours.
